Narwhal – Unicorn of the Sea

Let’s be honest. This book’s title alone already gives it points in its favor. Its table of contents only helps.

  • Narwhal is Really Awesome
  • Really Fun Facts
  • Narwhal’s Pod of Awesomeness
  • The Narwhal Song
  • Narwhal and the Best Book Ever

This book contains a selection of three short stories, along with a couple of other little sections. The first story starts out with Narwhal and a confused, skeptical jellyfish, and quickly begins to explore the philosophical concept of the nature of reality – as seen by a narwhal and a jellyfish that look as if they were drawn with crayon. There are waffles. Underwater.

This goofy, adorable story is followed by Narwhal and jellyfish facts, as told by the two characters. This is followed by a song and a couple more little stories which even include a Beatles joke and a robot.

This book is fantastically silly, and the style of the artwork suits it perfectly. I loved it. I can easily see kids requesting it again and again, and it’s absurd enough for parents to enjoy as well. It’s long for a single picture book, but with the three stories broken up with the facts and song, parents could break it up into separate story times without any problem. It’s publishing date is set for October 4, 2016.
