Dream On

Dream On by Kerstin Gier (The Silver Trilogy #2)

While Dream On is the book that came out in English this year, I read both it, and its prequel (Dream A Little Dream) within the last day and a half, so this is more of a review of the series that’s out thus far than just the one book specifically.

That said, I really enjoy Kerstin Gier’s writing. This isn’t the first time I’ve read her books, and I was happy to see this new trilogy. Her books seem to have an element of the surreal mixed with the mundane everyday life of a high school student. In the Silver trilogy, that means that characters can lucid dream while sleeping – and leave their own dreams to visit those of others.

There’s a mystery element to it as well, as our main cast of characters (Liv, her to-be-stepbrother Grayson, and boyfriend Henry) try to figure out who has been messing with her younger sister’s dreams – and making her sleepwalk into dangerous situations. There’s also the ongoing question of who’s been writing the school’s gossip blog, full of details that only someone who has been eavesdropping in their dreams would know about.

The main characters are fun, good, relatable people, and the villains are somewhere between stark evil and I-can-see-how-they-got-there. It makes for a complicated situation when things from the dream realm bleed into their real lives, and they’re not sure how it’s happening.

These books are a light, fun, quick read, good for whiling away an afternoon or evening. The third book appears to have come out last October (in German), but I haven’t been able to find a date on when the translation of it in English is coming out. I’ll definitely be finishing it when it does, though!

Bonus: It came with a delicious looking cookie recipe in the back that I plan to test out.
