Imprudence

Imprudence by Gail Carriger

I love Gail Carriger. Her books are my fun, light, go-to read, and I’m always excited when a new one comes out. I was especially excited for this one, because it feels like forever since I’d read Prudence when it came out, the first book in The Custard Protocol series. (Read The Parasol Protectorate series first, though. This series will make much more sense for you, and you won’t regret it.)

In this one, Prudence/Rue has to face the fact that her father, an immortal, is succumbing to the Alpha’s curse. This means that while he’s immortal, he’s been losing his human mind, as well as control of his pack. Rue ends up going partway around the world to help safe him, and a familiar character from the Parasol series shows up along the way.

She also has to deal with the romancing of a certain Quesnel, who she’s determined is simply a flirt that she wishes to have French lessons with, and not engage her heart. Her practicality does not come in handy, in this instance.

Being frequently attacked, they decide that the attackers must be after the Werelionesses, one of whom is aboard Rue’s airship. They decide to go to their rescue, and end up finding out much more than they bargained for.

These books are never going to be very serious reads. They’re filled with too much humor, and stuffed with too much silliness (deliberately) to ever be a grind to get through. These are the books that you read when you need something fun, and they always are fun. Personally, I liked Prudence  a little better than this one, but Imprudence was an excellent continuation, and tied up some loose ends from the Parasol series that had been waiting for a while to be put to rest.  I’m looking forward to seeing the next book that Gail Carriger comes out with – as I always am. They’re just plain fun.
