Den of Wolves

Den of Wolves by Juliet Marillier

I’m sure I’ve said this before, but I’ve never been disappointed by a Juliet Marillier novel. This one was definitely no exception. This is the third book in the Blackthorn and Grim series, and tied up a lot of loose ends – meaning it could easily be the end of a trilogy if that’s what they decided to make it, though there are certainly plenty of places they could go if she wants to write more with these characters.

In this particular one, there’s a very reticent girl, and Blackthorn has to find out what makes it so difficult for her to talk to people. Meanwhile, Grim has been hired to help with a job at the girl’s home, after the girl was being kept at Prince Oran’s court until summoned back. There’s a lot of little bits and pieces that they only are able to put together by breaking promises of not telling anyone, but had already decided that the other person didn’t count in those particular promises.

As a result, they solve a decades-old mystery and make a family whole again, though obviously it can’t be a happy ending for everyone. But Blackthorn and Grim learn things about each other they hadn’t known before as well, and it had a very satisfying ending.

Seriously. Read books by Juliet Marillier.
